Head in a Fog

I feel like I've been in a whirlwind lately. I can't put my finger on it but at the same moment, if I force myself to think about it...I can. It's kind of like Amanda describes in this post- Hitting the Reset buttonon her blog Runninghood. I just feel like I'm not giving 100% in all areas right now, especially the areas I want to be. I know I've been going through a lot-the flu, pelvic injury blah blah...I am also tired of the excuses for the rut. I need to sit down and figure out what I am going to do to help myself out of it. How am I going to be more proactive to get myself running again without relying solely on the PT's, how am I going to get things done at work without become stressed and just making every deadline, how will I make my house run smoother?! I also feel like my rope is shorter with the kids, again Amanda speaks about the same thing. I know the right things to do, I know the right things to say but jeez some days it is just so, so hard. So my job now is to sit down, refocus, reset, rewind...you get the jist. Wish me luck!
(oh yeah another thought...I am wondering if this has anything to do with finishing my cleanse...I have yet to tell you about that because I'm pulling a few pictures, materials, etc together before I post.   We'll see..)
Question and reminder and update:
*Have you ever been in a rut? If so, what helps you most to get out?
* GU giveaway ends May 1st!
* I finally figured out how to change the color of font, add the strikethrough, see isn't it cool!  I apparently didn't have the updated version of Blogger!  Who knew!?

  1. I can totally relate to this post. It has been driving me crazy lately to be feeling like I am NOT giving 100% at everything that I am committed to...blah. On friday I got some great advice though...someone told me to think of the three main areas of my life: relationships, self/personal and school/work. Then decide on the ONE most important thing that day that needed to get done in each category and take care of those things first. This has been super helpful for me over the weekend because it made me work toward a greater balance of all three. I felt much more productive at least!!

    have a good night!

  2. Hi Annette. Glad my post spoke to you in some way. :) Thank you for your comment. :) I think we have to have these times in order to keep growing and come out of these "funks" with fresh perspective. I'm always so much happier than before when I get over my funks. :) Hope you find clarity and a refresh!

  3. Sometimes just writing about the rut helps! I find I need to come up with a plan. :) "This too shall pass." (Not sure who to attribute that quote to, but there ya go.)

  5. I know how you feel! I seem to get in these type of ruts fairly often. It's about time for me to sit and figure out how to refocus, too. Maybe you can motivate me. :)

  6. I was in a bit of a running rut earlier this year, probably for a good month or so. I know, not a long time but I was worried since it was in a 9-week stretch between marathons. Last thing I wanted to do was to approach a marathon in a rut. I just set aside everything and focused on enjoying my runs. I had to dig deep, why do I run? what is enjoyable about running? things like that and came up with the answers during a few runs, including a 20-miler that could have been a debacle but turned out to be a bounce-back run.

I am, however, mired in a months-long cooking rut and I have not been able to escape it. I got into cooking in late 2007 and probably for a couple of years I was trying new things left and right - orange chicken, lasagna, chorizo burgers, carnitas. Let's see... it's been more than a year that I've just been in a stinking rut and I can't get out of it. I swear I make the same 10-15 things over and over again. I think I might have to just start watching Food Network for hours on end to get re-inspired. Maybe that'll work. Probably not. Sigh.

  7. L.B. my husband would think 10-15 different types of meals would be awesome lol...seriously though everyone thank you for the great advice and "go-get ums". Its always good to hear that you are not the only one and that others have felt that way. I am pretty sure these ruts happen for reasons, good ones at that!
