I haven't really been talking or shall I say blogging about what's been going on in my school district. Its been super stressful and I kinda went with "if you don't talk about it - it won't happen" approach. Not a realistic approach but an approach! Education is in a bad place right now and districts are hurting big time. I am not going to go into all the specifics...long story short my school was in jeopardy of closing, teachers are losing their jobs and we still don't have a contract. All this stress, you could imagine how it became easy, almost a need for me to just go for a long run to let it all out!
Last night, we found out one positive, which is they are going to wait on closing a school until they put enough time to look at ALL the ramifications it would have. Hopefully, the school district will be able to redistrict, utilize the classrooms and schools more efficiently, etc...etc...so they can keep services the same, provide quality educationa and save some teachers jobs. How hard in these financial times must it be to lose your income, your benefits!?!
So how is this a good day? Keeping the school open means the board is thinking...and not just jumping into a quick fix that will cost us all more later. Today is a good day.
Being a mother, a wife, a teacher and runner...and trying to make it all work!

Monkey Business
So today's a day off in the running world but not in the momma and teacher world! Went to work early today to finish report cards, IEP's, parent phone calls, and for a principal visit for a student that STOLE my M&M's lol!
Then I came home to my daughter who apparently decided she wanted to be a monkey. Tail (thanks Marie) and all. We made eggs and she insisted a monkey lays eggs too. Can we say monkey obsessed? After a long battle of ..."Monkeys do not lay eggs Brooke...Yes mommy, THEY DO lay eggs"...it turns out that she saw an episode of Curious George where George was curious about eggs hatching and sat himself down on a few that were nesting. Hence, the "Monkeys DO lay eggs" theory from Brooke. She's upstairs right now with #1 A pink and purple nightgown. #2 Pink shoes and #3 A monkey tail- SLEEPING! Yes, don't you worry...I will take a picture after she is fast asleep so my mega flash doesn't wake her. Too tired for wake-the-kids-up mode today.
Oh..Ps...i plan on thriving tonight. Bed at 9! Take that sore legs!

Holy Shite
Lately, the hills of Nissequogue have been kicking my @ss! I almost became emotional...(seriously) on one of them because I let the thought "I can't do this" enter for a moment....just a lil' second of that kind of thinking led me to thinking about ALL the mileage for the marathon, to OMG I already signed up for it-I can't back out now, to what the hell am I going to blog about with all this craziness! So I decided let me write about those bastard hills. I haven't decided yet which way I like to conquer them best. There is either A)Look down, concentrate on taking small short steps and don't focus on how hard or long the hill is -just take it step-by-step or B)Focus on the top and pick little points along the way as mini finish lines. I guess you can look at this with daily hills (problems) what's best?? I'm not sure I figured out the answer...but I do know it feels damn good to get to the top and be done with it! Did 10.75 and the last hill today I'm climbing is the stairs into my nice, cozy, fluffy bed...mm mm good.
Lets see if this Garmin thing works...if it does...you will see where I ran.
So it worked! I added the map to the mock duathlon page to...my legs didn't know what to do when I got off that bike! I ran a 7:37 mile!!! WHAT?! Who do I think I am...Scott? (wait was that a compliment?! I think it may have been...although i don't get runners trot after 3 miles lmao!)

Where Two become One
So some of you know that I have another blog. Blogging is a definite release for me and also a way for me to share recent updates with the kids with my family that lives farther away. Now the problem is I'm super crazy busy and its hard to keep up with both. So don't be surprised if you see my little buggers pop up on these posts!!! There...you were forewarned!
So one of the biggest problems with runners is finding time, one of the biggest problems with being a mother is finding time, one of the biggest problems with teaching is finding time (except in the summer he he). I'm sure you see the pattern that has become my dilemma. TIME! I try my hardest not to go for a run or bike or anything during my "prime time" with the kids. I make it a point to leave my phone in the car...its their time. Its very easy nowadays to not be in the moment, I've caught myself there many of times.
So, I have been waking at 6 before they wake up or I leave at 7ish when they go back to sleep. Once in a while I will bring them with me to the gym (which they love), for a ride or even a run (although its so heavy for me now-that requires a hubrun). This age is really difficult because right now...I AM THEIR UNIVERSE!!! I BE THE BOMB!!! lol....seriously though, Lucas latches onto my leg now as if I am his only chance of surviving this cruel, cruel world! Sometimes this can be a bit overbearing but don't get me wrong...I love it.
Tonight I rode Tour de France in spin (don't ask...I'll explain another time) and when I got home I was all lovey, mothery, wanting to snuggle my babies. The problem was the "babies" were sleeping...or on their way. I walked into Brooke's room and caught an open eye, then a smirk....then a pink shoe. I mean really? How could I not break out in laughter, get my camera then jump into bed for a quick photo shoot of shoes and downward facing dogs!

Giveaway!!!
So the new thing on blogs(or maybe I'm just recently hearing more about it)is that companies are using them for advertising. If you think about it, its pretty darn smart. They get wired around in seconds by thousands of readers that are totally into what they are selling. There are some rules and stipulations but nothing too crazy...one of them is to put a reference of that persons blog on your blog...hence this entry. So if you are a runner, or biker, trekker lol, love to ski or play soccer you would be a candidate for this giveaway! So give it a try..what the hell. My SIL just won 150 buckaroonies to Old Navy by answering a question on another blog. So here's the blog...5 Miles Past Empty go visit!

That's a Great Question
So to answer some of your questions from the comment sections....
Magic Bullet- THE ANSWER TO CLEANING ANNOYING BLENDERS!!! Honestly a must have. I love it for making smoothies, love it for grinding and pureeing things for the kids, love that I can make three different smoothies for three different people in five minutes and I LOVE, LOVE that it takes two minutes tops to clean.
Snacking- Yes, I snack! I love the kids Clif bars, the brownie one the most. I usually have this as my morning snack. Afternoon, I usually try pretzels, or cheese and crackers. Night- I have a skinny cow to fill my urge when I have it!...
(PMS week- WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT!) Honestly, with the running I don't limit myself too much if I crave it BUT the cravings have stopped more.

Woke Up This Morning (in the tune of Soprano song)
Woke up this morning and loved that I rushed out of bed to get my 3 miles in before the start of the day. That IS NOT an easy thing for me to do! I've never been a morning person and I am slowly trying to train myself to get out of that late night pattern. Some days its easy and some days not so much!
